At
Statik, our goal has always been to partner with product companies
and distributors that understand their role in the salon business
and strive to improve the hairdressing business holisitically. We
have always felt that if the product is good and the company ethical,
all they have to do is put it in the stylist's hands and we will do
the rest. That is the way professional products have built their businesses,
by listening to the wants of the industry professional and giving
them the tools to help create beautiful hair.
It seems today
that many companies have a hidden agenda: To let the stylist endorse
and build them to the point that they can be bought by one of what
we consider to be "drugstore" companies. We have seen this happen
time and time again, and invariably the product company that once
was led by an industry visionary is now being run by a major corporation
with multiple lines under their umbrella. Their priority is their
board of directors and shareholders- can they even remotely care
about the independant salon owner? Since the person making all the
decisions probably never held scissors or a blowdryer before, how
can they possibly expect to have any real credibility among industry
professionals, the only real experts in hair care.
With a company
like Estee Lauder's Aveda, they have taken it to the next level by
bypassing salon owners and the hairdressing industry completely. They
did this by opening their own retail locations called Lifestyle stores.
Many of the people making retail suggestions to consumers have never
worked with hair and its many different types. We feel that when
a company starts selling outside of a professional salon environment,
they are no longer a professional product.
At Statik, we only
sell professional products and we only carry lines that are independantly
owned. These companies understand that it is the stylist that makes
or breaks them and they respect us for our expertise. If they don't,
we move on. We are artists and service people first, not corporate
mouthpieces. Product companies should feel honoured to have a place
in salons.
"Drugstore" Companies and some of their well-known
brands with "professional" brands in bold. With so many different
and competing brands under these 4 major companies, it's hard to imagine
the professional stylist and their clients' needs being a
top priority.
Also, almost all of these parent companies conduct animal
testing in many of their divisions. For a more thorough list, contact
